| About FixMyGadget.com |
Who are you?
We are a small, family business. Steve does all the repairs and Connie answers emails and takes care of
shipping. Steve’s background in computer repair and upgrades for friends, family and businesses was the
inspiration for FixMyGadget.com. Since he was a child, he’s had a fascination with electronic equipment,
starting with disassembling and reassembling transistor radios at age nine. That led to a higher education in
computers and electronic repair and a career working with computers and the Internet. close
|
How long have you been doing repairs?
FixMyGadget.com has been in operation since 2007, first offering repairs through eBay and eventually building
up to what it is today. We have repaired over 900 Nintendo DS systems in that time – there is not much we
haven’t seen! close
|
What motivated you to start repairing game systems?
Steve is an avid gamer and was motivated by the need for affordable repairs for the handheld game systems. In
addition to the economic factor, the environmental factor is important to us at FixMyGadget.com. It’s better
for us all if a system can be repaired and re-used, rather than tossed out and a new one purchased. Remember,
some of the parts of the systems considered hazardous waste and are not suitable for a landfill. close
|
Location
We are located in Corvallis, OR, which is just north of Eugene. However, we repair systems from all over
the country and beyond. We especially like to hear from those in Canada, which is where Steve is from
originally. close

Work Hours
You might receive emails from us that were sent late at night, and this is because we do much of the work for
FixMyGadget.com at night. We are night owls, so this works well for us. It also keeps our bosses at our day
jobs happy! FixMyGadget.com doesn’t pay all the bills yet, but we’re getting there. close
|
Methods of contact
Our usual and preferred method of interaction is via email. Emails are checked throughout the day, so urgent
questions can get answered quickly. Please feel free to email us any questions you might have, and we will
answer them quickly. close
|
Can I call you or you call me?
If there is something that you really need to discuss in person, or would just like to make sure we’re real
people, we can certainly call you. Please email us your phone number and the best time to reach you, and we
will contact you as quickly as possible. close

| Repair Process |
Actual process
So how does this mail-order repair thing work anyhow? First, fill out
our questionnaire to let us know what is wrong with your
system. Be as descriptive and honest as possible! The more we know, the more we can accurately diagnose the
problem over email. Also, be sure to include an actual, working email address, or we cannot answer your
email! We will respond to your inquiry within 48 hours, either with a diagnosis or questions abour your
situation. Once we have a diagnosis, we will estimate the repair costs. Then you can go to our deposit page
to pay the $10 deposit for repair and receive our shipping information. You then ship your system to us. Once
we receive it, we will do a 10-point diagnostic check of the entire system, and make sure our email diagnosis
was correct. If it was, we will email you with the confirmation and also send an invoice for the repairs. If
our initial diagnosis is different from what is actually wrong with your system, we will email to discuss with
you the repair options. Upon payment of the invoice, we will do the repairs for which you have paid, and ship
your system back to you. We do not repair any system until the payment is made in full – this is for our
protection as well as yours. close
|
How long does it take?
Our typical repair turn-around is 8-10 days, from when we receive a system to when it is shipping out to you
again. We might take a little longer than other repair services, but we offer each customer individualized
customer service and careful repairs with an attention to detail. Our ultimate goals are to get your system
back to you as quickly as possible and to make sure the repair is done right the first time. close
|
Diagnosis
For every system that we receive, we do a very thorough, 10-point diagnostic check of all components. This is
to help us determine the problem, what might have caused it, and any other problems that might affect game
play. We will tell you of everything we find, and give our recommendation as to whether it needs to be
repaired at that time or not. It is in your best interest to tell us of all known problems before you ship
your system, as there are some things we cannot repair. close
|
When will my system be repaired?
Systems are repaired after full payment has been received. It can take up to 7 days before your system is
repaired and ready to ship, sometimes a bit longer. Please know that each system will receive individual
attention to it’s repairs and sent back to your as quickly as possible. Sometimes some systems need more
repair time than others to ensure all components are working properly. We make no guarantees about the length
of time for a repair, but we will do our absolute best to have your system repaired and shipping in 8-10
days. close
|
Can I get my system back by a certain date?
We are more than happy to try and accommodate special requests for speedy repairs if a system is needed by a
certain date. Just be sure to let us know that up front, and we’ll tell you if it’s possible. You are also
welcome to pay extra for a faster return shipping method (we use First Class Mail, which delivers in 3-4 days
to most parts of the US). close
|
|
| Payments |
Accepted methods of payment
Our preferred method of payment is credit/debit card through our website. We also can accept a cashiers check
or money order mailed to us, but this payment method will increase the repair time. We do not accept personal
checks. close
|
Why do you ask for a $10 deposit?
We ask for a $10 deposit for two reasons. First, if we can’t repair a system or if a customer chooses not
have it repaired after our diagnosis, then we use the deposit to ship the system back. Second, it helps us to
know what systems are being mailed and what parts will be needed for those systems. This way we can monitor
our parts and make sure we have what is needed to repair a system quickly and ship it back out. The deposit
is credited towards your repair total when the diagnosis is complete. close
|
Pricing
Our prices include two things, our labor rate ($25) and the cost of the part needed (varies depending on the
repair). If your system needs more than one repair, the cost will include the labor rate once, and the costs
of the parts. Obviously there is a ceiling for reasonable costs (the cost of new system) and we try to keep
everything reasonable and fair. We are not out to ‘nickel and dime’ our customers, and we will do everything
we can do keep the repair cost as low as possible for you. Our prices also include return shipping via First
Class Mail, with Delivery Confirmation and insurance. close
|
Multi-system discount
If you have more than one system that needs repairs, we will give you a 10% discount on the total if they are
repaired at the same time. This is done automatically when more than one system is sent. close
|
|
| Shipping |
Shipping to us
You are welcome to use any shipping method you choose to ship your system to us. We highly recommend you
insure your system as well as purchase Delivery Confirmation because we are not responsible for your system
until it arrives at our location. Just be sure to pack your system securely and include your return address
inside the box. It’s also a good idea to write down your system’s serial number just in case the system gets
lost in the mail (this actually happened once and the system was recovered because the owner had written down
their serial number!). close
|
Where is your shipping address?
Our shipping address is sent to you after submitting your $10 deposit. This is so that we can make sure we
are only receiving systems that we can repair, which saves time for our customers and us. close
|
Return shipping
Return shipping is free and we return ship via USPS First Class. We also insure your repaired system for you
for its trip home. If you want to pay for a different or faster shipping method, let us know and we will add
the cost to your repair total. close
|
|
| Warranty |
Do your repairs come with any warranty? What does the warranty cover?
Yes, all of our repairs come with a 90-day warranty. This covers both the parts used and our labor. If you
send us replacement parts to use, the warranty does not cover those parts. The warranty covers faulty
workmanship and/or manufacturer’s defects of parts. The warranty does not cover problems caused by the user
or damage caused by misuse. You can see the entire warranty on our warranty page. close
|
How do you know how the damage occurred?
We’ve repaired enough of these systems to know what use causes what damage; it’s usually fairly obvious.
However, there are always weird instances and we are truthful and fair when dealing with warranty coverage.
Our ultimate goal is for you to be happy with our repair work. close
|
How do I use my 90-day warranty?
Just contact us at support@fixmygadget.com and
let us know the problem you are experiencing. Give us as much details as possible. We’ll instruct you to
ship your system back to us so that we can determine the cause of the problem and do the repairs. We keep
extensive records of all our past repairs, so we can let you know if your repair is still under warranty if
you no longer have your warranty slip originally sent to you. close

Information on Nintendo’s One-Year Warranty
Every new system automatically comes with a one-year warranty from Nintendo. If you purchased your system
less than a year ago, it is still covered by that warranty and you should contact Nintendo about any repairs.
Even if the repair was caused by the user (in which case Nintendo might charge for the repair), it’s best to
have Nintendo repair the system to maintain the original warranty until it is expired. close

|
| Self-Repairs |
Your prices are a little high, I think I’ll try to repair this myself.
If you choose to repair your system yourself, we highly recommend against using super glue for any repair.
You can find repair guides and parts at http://www.powergamingparts.com.

| Used Systems |
Do you buy or sell used systems?
We do buy used systems occasionally, depending on their condition. If you are interested in selling a used
system to us, send us an email detailing it’s condition. However, we do not sell used systems. close
